A few weeks ago, BoatingLocal’s Tom Richardson and Mike King traveled to the town of Niantic, Connecticut, and got a personal tour of the river and bay, courtesy of Tobey Russ of Three Belles Marina on lovely, protected Smith Cove.
Tobey and his wife, Libby, have run the marina for the last 6 years, and in that time have turned it into a beautiful facility that offers fuel, rack storage, transient slips and moorings, a launch ramp, grills and picnic tables, a pool, haulout, service, repair, a ships store and deli. Three Belles is also a Hobie kayak dealer, as the Russ’s have recognized just how great the Niantic River is for paddling.
On our day on the water with Tobey Russ, we visited several Niantic boating venues and got a good look at the river and the bay—although there’s much more to see and do than what we can show you in the accompanying video. Suffice it to say that Niantic has boaters covered, but you’ll have to bring your own boat here to fully appreciate the place.
