Capt. Bruce Sweet and the crew of the Gloucester-based charterboat Sweet Dream III were fishing for bluefin tuna on Stellwagen Bank on Saturday, June 26, when they hooked a 7-foot great white shark.
The fish ate a live mackerel dangled from a fishing kite. According to Sweet’s website, the shark circled the boat and inspected the bait for 10 minutes before devouring it. Angler Jon Land fought the fish for 15 minutes on a Penn 70 standup outfit before bringing it alongside the boat, where it was tagged and released.
