A new website that reveals what dealers pay for boats went live today, despite protests from some dealers and boatbuilders who worry it will hurt their businesses.
According to an article on TradeOnlyToday.com, the new website — www.SeeDealerCost.com — includes manufacturer and dealer price information, including prices on used models, as well as dealer locator information, educational articles, finance and insurance information, and more.
But the new site isn’t sitting well with some in the boating industry. “Why does the consumer need to know what our cost is?” said Phil Keeter, president of the Marine Retailers Association of America. “What purpose does that serve?”
Keeter says the price on the dealer’s invoice doesn’t include what happens at the dealership to prepare a boat for sale. And, he says, there is no set invoice cost for every dealer of a specific brand.
What do you think?
Should the public know dealer costs, or will it hurt the boat industry?
