A Rhode Island family got the vacation video of a lifetime this week as they filmed a roughly 15-foot great white shark eating a gray seal while on their boat near Cape Cod’s Monomoy Island off Chatham, Massachusetts.

Peter Mottur, of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, and his family were on their boat ñ a 35-foot Duffy Flybridge off the south tip of the island Wednesday morning when they came across the shark.

Mottur said the shark didn’t seem scared at all. It circled the boat a few times and kept returning to eat the seal carcass for roughly 10 minutes.

State shark experts have confirmed that the shark is a great white, adding the video is exciting because video footage of a shark eating is rare.
