Tara Llewellyn of Hull, Massachusetts, put together the accompanying video capturing the sounds, sights and excitement of the 33rd annual Snow Row, held March 10 on Boston Harbor. The competitive rowing race takes place each March at the Hull Lifesaving Museum’s Windmill Point Boathouse in Pemberton, and the late-winter date often makes for dicey conditions.
After the LeMans-style start, participants follow a 3-mile triangular course that runs from the beach in Pemberton, around Sheep Island, past the Peddocks Island daymarker and back to shore.
Two teams from Belfast, Maine, took top honors in this year’s event. The 6-member men’s team in the Belle Fast was first to cross the finish line in the Pilot Gig category. They finished the course in just over 34 minutes.
Second place was secured by the Belfast women’s Pilot Gig team in Selkie. It took them less than 40 minutes to complete the course.
