Update: Pilot Whale Leaves New Bedford Harbor
SouthCoastToday: The 15-foot pilot whale that wandered into New Bedford’s inner harbor this week has made it through the hurricane barrier gate and is now well on its way to the Elizabeth Islands, those who were tracking it said this morning.
Animal control officer Manuel Maciel said that as of 9 a.m. the whale was in the water off Davy’s Locker restaurant on East Rodney French Boulevard, Maciel said.
But onlookers said the whale was making fast progress and was soon seen leaping out of the water toward Buzzards Bay.
