Sea Tow Founders Honored at LI Nursing & Rehab Center
San Simeon by the Sound Center for Nursing, Rehabilitation and Adult Day Health Care in Greenport, New York, honored Captain Joe and Georgia Frohnhoefer of Sea Tow Services International, Inc., at the facility’s annual fundraising event, “Cocktails By The Bay”, held at Founders Landing in Southold, on Sunday, July 22, 2012.
San Simeon By The Sound Board Chair and President Marie Beninati said, “Both Capt. Joe and Georgia Frohnhoefer are pillars of the community and have an unwavering interest in serving the public. Hence their selection as Honorees was a great choice for a facility such as San Simeon, which serves the community at large.”
A lifelong boater, Capt. Joe Frohnhoefer, Founder of Sea Tow Services International, based in Southold, has worked as an electrician and taught shop in the Suffolk school system (among other varied interests and pursuits). He also is an EMT and served with the New York State Park Police covering the North Fork of Long Island. So when there was a change in the United States Coast Guard (USCG) regulations stating that the USCG would no longer tow in non-emergency situations, the opportunity to combine his lifesaving skills, his commitment to public service, his entrepreneurial spirit and his love of the water became the inspiration for Capt. Frohnhoefer to found Sea Tow Services in 1983.
Beninati noted during her comments that the growth and success of Sea Tow is not only a credit to Capt Joe, but also to his dedicated wife, Georgia, and both his children, Kristen and Joseph, who are intimately involved in the day-to-day operations of Sea Tow. The crowd giggled when Marie said, “Behind every successful man, is an exhausted woman,” and Captain Joe said loudly (and proudly), “That’s my Georgia.”
Today, you can still find Captain Joe towing boats in the waters of Long Island Sound, Peconic Bay and off the coast of Montauk. And he is still having fun.
