SailMaine has announced its membership with Sailors for the Sea, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to educate and empower the boating community to protect and restore the oceans and coastal waters.

In 2011, all regattas hosted at SailMaine will meet or exceed the requirements of the “Clean Regatta” program. Program requirements include the reduction of litter, the reduction of single-use water bottles, recycling improvements, and a litter-awareness campaign.

SailMaine will provide non-toxic, reusable plastic water bottles for all program participants, in addition to access to clean water on site. Support for the initiative comes from Sturgis Boat Works, a Massachusetts-based company dedicated to supporting community sailing organizations and furthering the sport of sailing.
