The Buzzards Bay Coalition (BCC) has opened registration for the Buzzards Bay Swim and the Watershed Ride. In 2010, the 2 events generated over $100,000 in support of Coalition programs to protect and clean Buzzards Bay, but fundraising is only part of the reason that people participate, according to Mark Rasmussen, President of the Coalition.
The 18th Annual Swim Buzzards Bay will take place on Saturday July 2, with the first swimmers hitting the water just after 7:00 a.m. to swim 1.2 miles from Davy’s Locker in New Bedford to DCR’s Fort Phoenix in Fairhaven. The Swim draws a wide range of participants, including serious competitors, first-timers, families, teams, and everyone in between.
Participants can register at the new Swim Buzzards Bay website.

The 5th Annual Watershed Ride will take place on Sunday, October 2, with cyclists departing at 9:00 a.m. for a 76-mile Bike Ride from Westport to Woods Hole. The route is one of the region’s best with winding roads that take cyclists through coastal villages, past cranberry bogs, the New Bedford waterfront, farmlands, and along the back roads of Cape Cod. There is also a 35-mile half-ride option, which starts in Rochester and ends in Woods Hole. Participants can register at the new Watershed Ride website.
