Newburyport Times: From the back deck of Black Cow Tap & Grill on Thursday (April 7), Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray and a handful of state and city officials had an ideal view of the deteriorating bulkhead that has supported the city’s boardwalk for the past 35 years.
Rusty steel sheets protect and shelter the underlying supports for the picturesque boardwalk. It is hard to imagine the bulkhead giving way and compromising a locale that’s attracted residents and visitors alike for decades.
Thanks to a $1.98 million grant from the Seaport Advisory Council hand-delivered to the city yesterday by Murray, city leaders no longer have to worry about losing what many refer to as the crown jewel of the downtown.
