Some members of Massachusetts’ New Bedford Community Rowing have created a splinter group in Mattapoisett after a tumultuous spring that saw new leadership take over the original organization, according to an article on SouthCoastToday.com.

The new group, tentatively called the South Coast Rowing Club, approached Mattapoisett harbormaster Horace Fields III the week of April 9 about launching boats from his base, Fields said. “They are welcome to launch their boats here and row in our harbor,” said Fields. “There are no final solutions or anything, but they’re being worked on.”

The new group split because of the abrupt March 30 termination of the contract of the group’s former coach, Carolyn McGonagle, and a lack of faith in the new leadership, named March 1 by Boston-based Community Rowing Inc., which runs the New Bedford rowing program as a subsidiary.
