Newport this week reports that the Middletown, Rhode Island, Beach Commission has approved recommendations to replace the Third Beach boat ramp and add floating docks without financial aid from the state or federal government funds.

Plans for a proposed pumpout station and fixed timber pier have been eliminated. The decision not to use outside funding will likely delay construction until 2015.
