BoatingLocal recently met up with Matt Housekeeper, creator and publisher of Soundbounder.com, in Noank, Connecticut. Soundbounder is a website dedicated to the appreciation of Long Island Sound, as well as a promoter of public access for Connecticut boaters. Originally from New York, where he grew up on the Hudson River, Housekeeper is a lifelong boater. As a boy he often fished the waters of Long Island Sound with his dad, and later worked at various marinas in Norwalk. In college he served as a crewmember aboard a 53-foot Hatteras that traveled between Nantucket and Miami. After college, Housekeeper lived in other parts of the country, including California, but always returned to the Sound.

About 10 years ago, he purchased a 1972 Bristol 30 sailboat, which he keeps at Spicer’s Marina in Noank. From this ideal home base, he roams the Sound and occasionally ventures farther afield to such places as Nantucket and Block Island. He reports on his boating experiences and offers sage boating advice on Soundbounder.com. The site also includes local news and many excellent photos.

BoatingLocal is pleased to announce that Housekeeper will be contributing occasional features, photos and news items on Long Island Sound to BoatingLocal. After meeting and sailing with him this past August, we feel that Housekeeper and his work with Soundbounder are a great fit for this site. After all, we’ve always believed that the best local boating information comes from real boaters, and Matt is on the water every chance he gets. You can get to know him a little better, as well as take a brief tour of the waters around Noank, by watching the accompanying video.
