Greenwich, CT, Can Charge for Moorings

According to an article in Greenwich Time, the town of Greenwich, Connecticut, has confirmed that it has the power to charge mooring fees in its waters. The state advised Greenwich’s new harbormaster Ian MacMillan to work with the town on mooring issues.
“It certainly validates what we were doing and allows us to move forward,” selectman Peter Tesei said Thursday at the first meeting of the Harbor Management Advisory Committee. “We charge fees and it’s okay for us to charge fees.”
MacMillan claims there are still unaccounted moorings among the 850 he estimates are in town waters. He said that these will need to be identified, a process he estimates will take no longer than 2 months, before boat owners are invoiced the $100 mooring fee.
