Fisherman Airlifted off Cape Cod
Rescue personnel from Cape Cod medevaced a crewmember from a commercial fishing vessel 50 miles southeast of Nantucket, Massachusetts, on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.

U.S. Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England in Woods Hole received notification at 8:30 a.m. from the fishing vessel Challenge that a crewmember was suffering abdominal pain and possible internal bleeding. A Coast Guard flight surgeon was briefed and recommended an immediate transfer to a shoreside medical facility.
A helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod launched and lifted the injured crewmember aboard the MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter and safely transferred him to Cape Cod Hospital in Barnstable, Mass.
“The crewmember’s condition continued to worsen over the past few days,” said Lt. Adam Schmid, search coordinator at the First Coast Guard District Command Center in Boston. “Based on the vessel’s location, a helicopter medevac was the best option and was conducted by Air Station Cape Cod,” said Schmid.
