Boating Ban Proposed for Sakonnet River
EastBayRI.com is reporting that repair work on the Route 24 bridge spanning the Sakonnet River in Rhode Island could cause a shutdown of all boating traffic below the bridge for 4 weeks beginning in late August.
This would mean that boaters wishing to head downriver from points north of the bridge would need to go all the way around Aquidneck Island. The state Department of Transportation is considering the closure so that a series of large barges can be moved into the basin below the bridge, but the Coast Guard would ultimately make the final decision.
