As Ice Retreats, Hypothermia Remains a Threat in Maine
Ice may be melting away from Maine’s ponds, lakes and rivers, but hypothermia is still a danger to anyone boating or kayaking on the state’s waterways, according to an article in the Bangor Daily News.
Officials are warning boaters to stay close to shore, to try to avoid accidental overturns and to wear personal flotation devices or neoprene suits where possible to avoid exposure to water that is most likely not too much warmer than 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
