Narrow River, Rhode Island, Report: 5.30.12
I fished Rhode Island’s Narrow River on Thursday night (May 30) with Howard Reed, proprietor of Galilee Bait & Tackle. Joining us was The Diving Fisherman, Mike Laptew, who was kind enough not to don his wetsuit and spook all the fish (for once).
We fished the section of the river just below Sprague Bridge on foot, and found lots of stripers smacking bait on the surface on the outgoing tide. The fish were very selective, and we only managed to land a handful before being driven off the river by swarms of no-see-ums.
What bass we landed were very small, and would only hit tiny, sparsely dressed olive or black epoxy flies and Clousers. Save for the bugs, it was a beautiful evening, and we were even treated to the sight of 2 turkeys flying across the river to roost in the trees along the far bank.
