Cape Cod Bay, Canal, Buzzards Bay Report: 5.30.12
Jeff Miller of Canal Bait & Tackle filed the following report for the Cape Cod Canal, Cape Cod Bay and Buzzards Bay for May 30, 2012.
The Cape Cod Canal was very productive over the weekend. The biggest fish weighed at the store was 44 pounds. There’s still tons of bait in the Canal. Squid have been showing up heavy at night down by the East End. Mackerel are still moving through the Canal, and pogies have started to flush into the mid-Canal area.
The hot lure has been the Sebile Stick Shad American Shad. You need the fast-sink model because of all the boat traffic, which puts the fish down.

Cape Cod Bay is filled with big striped bass from the CC Buoy to the Dumping Grounds. Use a bunker spoon on wire line and you are guaranteed to hook up with some really nice fish. Green and white bunker spoons have been the most effective.

Bluefin Tuna have just started to show up around Stellwagen Bank. The size of the fish is kind of a mixed bag. All of the Ocean Lures will catch these fish.

Buzzards Bay is loaded with sea bass, and fluke are just beginning to show. You can use Spro bucktail jigs, in white or chartreuse for both species. Sweeten them with a piece of squid and hop them over a rocky bottom in 15’ to 30’ of water and you should be all set.
