Canal Loaded with Mackerel; Barnstable Still Hot

May 15, 2012: Jeff Miller of Canal Bait & Tackle reports that the Cape Cod Canal is loaded with mackerel. The lure that has been crushing the fish is the new Savage Sandeel.

“I have fished this lure extensively in recent days,” says Miller. “The plastic held up well against 4 fish before I had to change the body. I’m very impressed with it, and the paint job stands up well to the rocks of the Canal.”

In other news, Barnstable Harbor remains chockfull of mackerel. Lots of anglers are using Sabiki rigs to load up on macks and live-lining them for big bass.
