Cabela’s to Offer Prizes for Tagged Fish in CT
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is again partnering with outdoors retailer Cabela’s and its supporting sponsors for the “Wanna Go Fishing for Millions?” national contest.
The contest is being held in states that have Cabela’s retail stores and awards prizes to anglers who catch specially tagged fish and enter the tag number at the Cabela’s website. In Connecticut, DEEP is Cabela’s state partner and has tagged a total of 40 fish (largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, walleye, and trout) in 6 water bodies.
Every one of the fish tagged by DEEP is a winner. Product prizes include fishing gear and other outdoor equipment from Cabela’s. Among the winning fish, there are grand prize winners that may qualify for bonus prizes based on the winning angler using or wearing sponsors’ products when they catch a tagged fish. There is the possibility of a maximum prize of $2 million. The contest runs through July 8.
Registration is available at Cabela’s Fish for Millions.
Anglers can also register at the Cabela’s retail store in East Hartford. The list of lakes is also available on the Cabela’s website Eligible Waters.
Over 2,000 Connecticut residents participated in the 2011 “Wanna Go Fishing for Millions?” contest. Last year, 33 fish were tagged at 3 water bodies, and there were 13 winners in Connecticut. The largest prize awarded to a Connecticut participant was a $10,000 Cabela’s shopping spree.
Participants in the contest must adhere to all Connecticut fishing regulations and possess a state fishing license.
For current fishing regulations, consult the 2012 Connecticut Angler’s Guide, available at more than 350 locations statewide, including town halls, bait & tackle shops and other vendors selling outdoor equipment, DEEP facilities, and commercial marinas and campgrounds. Anglers can purchase their fishing licenses online or at one of the many participating town halls, tackle retailers and DEEP offices. Both the 2012 Angler’s Guide and the online licensing system can be accessed on the DEEP website at: www.ct.gov/deep/fishing.
