Capt. Barry Gibson of Shark Six Charters in Boothbay Harbor reports that the striper fishing has been up and down. There have been lots of sub-20” fish in the Kennebec-Sheepscot system, but keeper-size bass have been hard to come by.

Gibson said that the fishing along the western beaches has reportedly picked up a bit, and a few larger stripers were taken during the week. Linekin Bay continues to give up some big bass for live-baiters patient enough to wait out the bites.

Groundfish action has been decent on the offshore ledges, and mackerel are everywhere.

The tuna and shark scene has been quiet as the water out to about 10 miles is still cold (58 – 60 degrees) and off-color. There are lots of big squid being caught off the docks and piers in the harbor, pleasing those who like fresh calamari.
