What a great tuna bite in Chatham! While the striped bass fishing continues to be hot for the vertical jigging and wire line crowd, small tuna have entered the mix. Real “football” size fish are mixing in with bass and crushing bait on the surface.

Jigs and popping plugs are working wonders. Especially hot are the 10″ RonZ and Carlson Tuna Jig, as well as the new ORCA plug from Shimano.

Farther off the coast, the area around the BC Buoy is producing some larger fish. In the fog yesterday, fish to 63″ were caught and many boats had multiple hookups. Squid bars and bird bars were the best bets, and color didn’t seem to matter—although you cant go wrong with mackerel or black bars out that way!

Larger tuna are being caught in our northern waters. Take a look at this 71″ Fish that was caught by Bad Fish Friend Eric Cifuni on a live mackerel! Great job Eric!
