Remembering Danvers River Fisherman Joe Karolides
Salem News: Barry Gibson had just finished a presentation for the Plum Island Surfcasters on how to catch striped bass when he was approached by a man holding a homemade spinner rig.
Gibson was the editor of Salt Water Sportsman Magazine, a charter boat captain in Maine and a former world record-holder for bigeye tuna on a fly rod. But when it came to catching stripers, the gruff man with the funny-looking spinner rig considered himself the real expert.
