About
BoatingLocal was founded in January 2010 by Tom Richardson and Dave Dauer. Richardson, the former editor of Northeast Boating Magazine, and Dauer, the magazine’s former creative director, had a vision of creating a comprehensive website that would celebrate the New England boating lifestyle and serve as a place where people with a passion for boating could come for daily news, destination profiles, videos, photos and articles. The goal: to become the leading source of local boating and fishing information for New England boaters—and those wishing to visit the region.
Helping to achieve the goal is BoatingLocal’s team of experienced boating writers, photographers and videographers, including Betsy Frawley Haggerty, Ken Textor, Holly Parker, Dan Mathers, Rick Eggleston, Tom Schlichter, Kim Kavin, Joe Myerson, Malerie Yolen Cohen, Annie Sherman, Tom Croke, Cory Silken, Joe Devenney, Scott Goodwin, Caryn B. Davis and Thaddeus B. Kubis.
In addition to the website, BoatingLocal employs a range of social networking tools, including direct email, Facebook and Twitter, to alert the boating public to late-breaking news, water-related activities and events, new products, new boats and new articles, photos and videos that will enhance their boating experience and keep them better informed. Boaters can also sign up for BoatingLocal’s daily news feed.
“The idea is to grow and expand the site by adding new content every day, whether it’s a fishing video, a breaking-news item, a how-to article or fresh photos submitted by New England boaters who are out there enjoying the water and their boats,” says Richardson. “Eventually, we’d like our audience of real boaters to help contribute story and video ideas, and to keep us informed of changes in and around their home waters.”
